~ BREAKING NEWS - Government of Canada announced properties being made available to the marketplace -
The government of Canada lists federal lands for housing and new tools for builders
Calgary site in Currie neighbourhood made available for immediate development
of the 56 properties identified so far - the Government is only ‘open for feedback’ on most of them - only 5 are noted as immediately ‘Open for proposals’
‘the 5 properties’ have been added to the Canada Public Land Bank - which was released on August 25th; most of the properties are identified as ‘Green Dots’, meaning the government is open for feedback but not committee to providing
5 properties are identified on the website as ‘Open for proposals’
The Call for proposals is a joint proposal call by CMHC and Canada Lands Company - THESE LANDS ARE NOT FOR SALE; they are offered to ‘housing providers’ for ‘long-term lease at a discount’
2 are in Alberta - 1 in Calgary, 1 each in Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal
Calgary, Alberta - Dieppe Avenue Southwest Site 1 (a.k.a. 3830 Quesnay Wood Drive SW)
Edmonton, Alberta - Sir Arthur Currie Way
Toronto, Ontario - 1350 Sheppard Avenue West
Ottawa, Ontario - 370 Codd's Road / 800 Winisik
Montreal, Quebec - 125 Houde Street
One of the five properties was highlighted at a Calgary press conference this morning:
3830 Quesnay Wood Drive SW, is available for construction of a six-storey condominium apartment building that will offer 99 new units of housing, with a minimum of 30% dedicated to affordable housing. The press release indicated this parcel is already zoned and ready for development.
